The Nebraska Czechs of Wilber is now the legal owner of the famous “Czech Dancing Couple” design, as registered March 17, 2010, by the Nebraska Secretary of State. This design cannot be used in advertising, on souvenirs, clothing or any other items in the future without permission of and arrangements with the Nebraska Czechs of Wilber. Guide lines and fees for use of the design by those who wish to use it are being worked out by a committee of the Czechs.
The “Czech Dancing Couple”, which has become a national symbol of the Wilber Czechs, was created for the organization in 1962 by Elizabeth Zikmund, the artist who created so many great and authentic Czech designs for the organization. Since her death, her daughters gave the Wilber Czechs the right to own and register the design.
The design was officially registered at the expense of Joe and Kathy Vosoba and donated to the Wilber Czechs. They also registered and donated the trade names “Wilber Czech Beer”, “Nebraska Czech Beer”, “Czech Beer Brewed In Wilber” and “Cesky Pivo”.
